The Animus are "spirits" that rule this world, in a sense. We use that term loosely because we don't really know what they are.

The Animus control this place. Every now and then, they have "events" that affect us in various ways. Sometimes the effects are minimal and slightly frustrating, but other times they are more traumatic.
