The true joy of silence, is the freedom from the endless stream of repetitive thoughts which most people identify as "me". This "me", is nothing but endless internal chatter in the head and has only 3 predominant ways of relating to people and things; wanting, thwarfed wanting and indifference.

Wanting - This is commonly mistaken as love. You want the person or thing, believing they can give you happiness. Whatever things you do that you belief is out of love, is actually out of the belief or expectation that they will give you what you want.

Thwarfed wanting - When wanting cannot be met, it becomes resentment, anger, impatience.

Indifference - When a person or thing has nothing you want, you become totally indifferent to them. Such cases are most clear in our attitude towards our exes.

If we can be silent, be free from that endless chatter, then we can be free from "ourselves" as we know it. A moment of deep silence, will lead to realizing the fact that I am not my thoughts. Simply because I exist, even when my thoughts ceased.

If attention can be turned away from thoughts, then we have depersonalized thoughts. Thoughts are not taken seriously when we do not identify with them, and they are merely a mechanical process, a more subtle form of our bodily reaction. likewise, we can do the same to our emotions, memories and even life situations. Until, attention can be turned to attention itself. Then, we would have found the naked truth, we would have found ourselves.

Until we know who we are, we cannot truly be ourselves. When we dont know who we truly are, we try to be someone else whom we are not. We do so either by looking forward to something in the future, or at a more subtle level, simply resenting/uncomfortable with whatever is happening to you right now.

Thus, the most important relationship in life, is one's relationship with the present moment. When you are resentful towards now, now will be resentful towards you. And there is no other time other than now. Such, is the naked truth.
