What the hell happened to us?
Hi. Remember me? My name is Grammar. You might remember me from the early part of the century. I went away in the late 80's somewhere, I think.
But seriously. I was on the shuttle this morning, and our driver said "Please stay seated 'til the shuttle come to a full stop..." Well, that's wrong. The word you need there is "comes". That got me thinking about the complete lack of grammar and syntax nowadays. I was watching The Price is Right, and a guy was asking Bob Barker, "What her bid, Bob?" Bob had to ask "what?" three times. I was listening to KIIS FM, and a woman called in to request a song. No joke, it went like this:
"Yeah, I wanna hear a song, called where the love at. That's what it called, where the love at."
No. The song is called 'Where Is the Love', you are ALL kinds of wrong.
So what the hell happened to us? Are the schools to blame? Do people that rape the English language do so intentionally? Gimmie your thoughts, I'm totally stumped.
