Yes, this weekend I finally had my very first Rent!Live experience
at the special charity gala in London (Garrick Theatre). And boy was it amazing. The cast had only done one hour of rehearsal a week for six weeks, and yes, the lighting design and sound SUCKED. But the performances were outstanding. Mark was just adorable. Roger was a hard-rock-kicking dude. Collins had the most amazing voice. Maureen's Over The Moon was actually good (and usually that's my least favourite bit of the show).
And the bromance between Mark/Roger... OH WOW. When they do their fight before Roger leaves for Santa Fe, they were actually PHYSICALLY going at it and shoving each other. And at the end of What You Own, they just MASSIVELY BRO-HUGGED!!!!
Mimi wasn't brilliant but the staging was inventive - all they had was chairs! I wondered how they were going to do La Vie Boheme but Mark just walked across the chairs!
They got an audience standing ovation before the end of the show and everyone was standing, clapping and singing to Seasons of Love.
Now can't WAIT for Seattle and the original Broadway cast.
Also, I met up with the lovely lovely
moerlin from livejournal for the first time (did I mention that everyone I've met through my blog has been LOVELY?)
And it was my Hubby's 40th birthday. He's decided he wants to become a pilot and has his first lesson this Friday coming. Bless him.
