Life and such

So they just started this farmers market in Bonsall, and I went to it 2 Sundays ago. While there Ian and I ran into my friend Mike Fenton who invited us out to his farm in De Luz. We didn't end up going until last Friday.
He has 11 acres of a fruit forest, basically. Every fruit you can imagine, plus herbs and a big beautiful vegetable garden. We stayed about 4 hours - eating fruit and talking. Mike owned a music store for about 25 years and it turns out that he's good friends with all of Ian's guitar heroes, so they had a lot to talk about.
At the end of the day Mike offered Ian a job working with him on his farm and offered me a job doing the farmers market for him on Sundays, which we both accepted. Ian's been working all week, though it might take some time for the farmers market thing to happen.

Before we left Mike said, "Hey, so I might be buying another house. If I do, would you guys like to live here and caretake the farm?" I told him to keep us in mind for the future considering that we don't know anything about farming yet. But still, it was nice to be offered.

We may be on our way to becoming farmers. There is something about that that seems so noble to me, working the land and eating what you grow. I feel like I'm part of a generation that doesnt think about where the food they get at the supermarket comes from or what the food they eat goes through before it gets to them. And the more I read and "investigate" the more I get a little freaked out and it just makes growing all my own food sound that much better. The Monsanto Company scares me to the point of being shaky, and I just have to remember to not worry about things I can't control and stick to thinking positively about what's currently at hand. Because the world is fucking crazy.
