"Suzanne" by Leonard Cohen is one of the most beautiful songs ever....seriously

so thanks to lovely poetry class i've been writing. i wrote this piece which i feel might be a bit forced but i dont know i think it's alright anyway, i'll put it here so it's not forgotten, i wrote it about when my uncle died a few years back, if you dont know the circumstances already, the poem kind of sums it up in a vague way.

I never really knew you
‘cept for the cans decorating your car
And how we didn’t get too far
Without my mother ripping at my arm

I never really knew you
At the end of your hospital bed
Thinking that you would ascend
While all the teeth fell from your head

But it didn’t surprise me much
For fate to tell its jokes
And take you by the throat
Just for a pack of smokes

And I remember when they found you
When your skull proved rather thin,
Regardless of your sin,
And decided to cave in

And “A Day in the Life”, A song,
Was the only reoccurring sound
Well after you’d been lowered down
And swallowed by the ground

Still, I never really knew you
‘cept for our pit stop at the park
When my mother gripped my arm
And I could feel her broken heart

And I hope she never knows me
When sleepless nights cause my eyes to sag
And my calloused hands
Are reaching for my pack of Camel’s in my bag.

anywho...i also wrote this, it's called "Erik Erikson", for you human development studiers out there. i guess it has something to do with fate or control or something.....it makes sense to me atleast...

Would you say that your love is gone
while you're staring down the barrels of my gun?
and woould you say that you've never been wrong
while you're staring down the barrels of my gun?

cause this is the place where
my own fate can
meet its maker
what i mean is
that it's me who's
pulling the strings
attached at my seems
and when i come
undone
there'll be nothing left here to see
cause the puppeteer's got no one else to blame
for the marks that he has made

and it sobers me up
to see that you're in love
with that selfish little bastard
yea i know the one you're after
it's hard to ignore such a disaster

sleeping pills are my mother's milk
now i'm staring down the barrels of her gun
i thought i'd changed a lot i hadnt changed a bit
now it's cocked and it's loaded and i'm knee deep in shit

cause this is the place where
my own fate can
meet its maker
what i mean is
that it's me who's
pulling the strings
attached at my seems
and when i come
undone
there'll be nothing left here to see
cause the puppeteer's got no one else to blame
for the marks that he has made

and it sobers me up
to see that you're in love
with that selfish little bastard
yea i know the one you're after
it's hard to ignore such a disaster

Ain't it funny mankind!
erecting syringes towards the sky
the sounds come spilling through the rafters
and the apes come tumbling after
it's just an unavoidable disaster
