but first!

A little something to brighten your day: this lovely bit of prose from the Onion's AV Club. "Before getting into the specifics of what a term like "sexify" might mean, it's worth taking a moment to wonder why any of the New Kids On The Block would qualify as go-to authorities in matters related to sexification".

Does it get any better than that? http://www.avclub.com/content/music/new_kids_on_the_block -the rest of the review for ya'll's reading pleasure.

Yes you read that correctly, and if you have guessed that I was in the South (or S'th as they say there) then you are correct and with the sports car(-shaped piece of driftwood)! I returned this afternoon from points south and east, via the long journey by train and bus (I love the train, though I'm not so happy on the bus... thankfully this time my seatmate was a slender chinese musician rather than an overweight midwestern woman. Those seats are small, and if the person in front of me puts their seat back I go from having no leg room to having to retract my legs into my body, so thankfully that didn't happen this time either. Win!). I managed a bit of sleep, but I'm a bit out of it. I had some coffee upon depositing my luggage at home, and then I took a little bit of a reunion bicycle ride Yay!! I missed my bicycle, except for a bit of time spent on a beach cruiser and an attempt at riding a too small bicycle with a highly distressed rear hub I got no riding in at all! I did get to do a little bit of repair work, though I wasn't going to devote the time to fixing the hub... though maybe I could have found a shop more happy to lend me tools than the first one I tried (they lent me enough to replace a tube and adjust some things, but cone wrenches and the like were hidden away). So obviously I have been quite deprived :( Dinner happened after that, though it was all a bit of ablur of chinese takeout boxes, and now I have been spending too much time on the computer catching up with everything - it was so nice not to be online much while travelling too.

as to the nature of my travels... well, sure what the hell. why not update you all nice folks? well, because it'll probably be very long... but I haven't let that stop me in the past!

First! My folks and I took off on a Tuesday afternoon and drove the drive to Charlotte, NC. thereupon arriving we got some hanging out with my sister and brother in law. Details are a bit sketchy that far back now, but there were salmon cakes and there was a trip to Discovery Place! to see relics of old Pompei and cuttlefish. There was additional good food. some made at home and some purchased at restaurants. On Friday I went to the local Quaker Meetinghouse for a weekend of Planning Committee! so... things were planned.

Sunday, after a lovely dinner, I was whisked away to the beach by my friend. We went to Hilton Head, which seems an odd place for two young, not especially wealthy folks to go, but we found a fairly inexpensive place to stay for a few days and we were not looking for wild nights out at the clubs and crazy beach party people filming scenes for videos to be sold on late night television, but just for a quiet place to hang out, swim in the ocean, rent bicycles and ride around, cook some meals, watch a few movies, and just generally chill the fuck out. A place where the beachside bar closes at 8pm was just about the right pace. We didn't do much shopping, though I did get a new swimsuit, since I seem to have lost my old one... it was still perfectly servicable, but the new one is brown and blue and paisley, and quite comfortable, and also was 40% off since it was the end of tourist season. We went out for sushi one night also and had excellent créme bruleé. It was very good sushi also. There were many little crabs at the beach and they were very cute, but I saw no alligators and am both dissapointed and probably a bit relieved at this.

here is photo evidence of our journeying:

We went on to spend a day in Charlston, because I had to eat at Slightly North Of Broad again and have their veggie platter. soooo goooood! We stayed at a nice place on Meeting st. called, appropriately, the Meeting Street Inn. It was lovely with wood and stuff, making up furniture and floors. It would, I suspect, have been a bit too ornate for John Woolman's liking, though maybe not excessively so. I just finished the guy's journal on the ride home, hence the odd aside. We also looked around for candy/chocolate seashells and found some. This was for a little mermaid themed birthday cake for my friend's niece. Maybe I'll have photos to share if I get some from her, but I didn't take any myself. I just helped with occasional bits of peanut gallery advisings, the decoration was all done by my friend and it's lovely and all edible except the little glass hermit crab in a real shell! found in the Charlston market... and the mermaid doll that went on top.

We stopped at the Columbia zoo after leaving Charleston.

Then we hung out in Greenville for a bit and dit the above mentioned broken bicycle riding and cake making and generally continued in a mode of being chilled out until I caught the train to DC where there was a whirlwind of activity! I saw many friends and ate out every night because it seemed to be the best way to see folks generally and I went to some museums to see art stuff and Jim Henson stuff and natural history stuff! There were butterflies and muppets and federal buildings galore! The Buddha came from Philadelphia to see me:

. The Buddha will be getting a tattoo of Sunflower Bike, which is pretty cool. It will be the first time my art has been tattooed on someone else, though I've been designing some tattoos for people lately. We also had lunch at, and a bit of a tour of, the Federal Reserve Board, which you've probably all heard of by now, even if you weren't paying much attention to such things before. They have a pretty good cafeteria. This is all I can reveal of my visit... that's not true. I didn't see anything sensitive and I wouldn't understand it if I had. That brings things back around to my return home pretty much. I left out various details of course because this is already huge.
