Millers in Paris, Day I

Paris was hard but ultimately pretty fun.

We left from Chicago last Sunday. Kyu was great on the flight, sleeping six of the eight hours and being sweet the other two (I watched in-flight movies and slept a little). Unlike me, he also did not seem to be affected by jet lag when we arrived on what was then Monday morning. God, I'm getting old.

We took the train to our hotel in the Latin Quarter and sought out to find some food. Paris is ridiculously expensive -- think about three American dollars for a bottle of water or four dollars for a cup of tea -- so eating out was a constant source of stress to Chris and me. Nevertheless, Chris had a crepe, and Kyu and I shared a sandwich at a smoke-filled cafe. I then took a nap, all the while nightmaring that Kyu would fall off the balcony of our very French hotel room. By that, I mean it was tiny and old, there was a bath but not shower, and there was only one English-language TV channel. Shockingly, there WAS free wifi and the best free breakfast in all the land (I'll get to that).

After my nap, we went out for dinner. Chris' Parisian coworker had mentioned that we should focus on artisanal boulangeries, so we found one and ordered another sandwich, goat cheese pizza and the first of many Oranginas. At that point, I felt napless Kyu should get to sleep, so that's what we attempted to do in our tiny (of course) bed.
