Still in a state of awe..

Well kiddos, tonight I worked the SBC...the George Strait concert! Yee haw! Don't get me wrong...I really don't like country music..and I found myself looking down from the Terrace Club watching the 19,000 or so screaming fans..and thinking to myself...I just don't get it.So anyway, the restaurant closed early and I took it upon myself to high tail it outta there. To think people paid upwards of 200 bucks a seat and here I was exiting out the back by the third song.Oh well.No big loss.I had more important things to do.
Like meeting up with my brother at the Huebner Oaks theatre at 10 pm for the only showing in San Antonio of the fantastic documentary film Bowling For Columbine.Wow.This has to be the most riveting theatre experience I've had in years.I couldn't believe how excited I found myself.. impatiently waiting for the damn previews to be over.
If you have heard anything about this film....be prepared to hear a lot more.I don't recall ever being so moved by a film that I found myself alternately shaking with anger...laughing uncontrollably..and for a few minutes..choking back sobs and tears.Remarkable.I am going to tell everyone I know to go see this film. Its a scathingly accurate account of America today. No US citizen should be deprived of seeing this film.
Guerilla filmaker Michael Moore paints a picture of a country so obsessed with violence..no correct that.. so saturated with violence that it begs the very question:What the fuck is wrong with us?
I remember seeing Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers when I was 18 and thinking..this guy is onto something here with his portrayal of our nation and its media's obsession wth violence. That movie really shook me up too..but it was so over the top with its hollywood gore and MTV like approach that it really kind of over-extended itself in its attempt to make us look in the mirror.Bowling For Columbine uses real footage of our government in action..and traces our history of stepping on other countries to get us to where we are today. So many senseless deaths and so many pointless costly wars that were at the root..always about money.
For everyone who still believes in America..as I do,you must go see this film.Just prepare yourself.Old wounds will be opened..everything from actual footage of the Columbine killings, from surveillance cameras inside the school,to a detailed account of the events that led up to the United States government providing billions of dollars in aid to Osama bin Laden and the Taliban, events that inevitably allowed 9/11 to happen.
This is a really long entry so I'll wrap it up by saying that my review barely scratches the surface. One other thing.Documentary or not,Bowling For Columbine deserves to win Best Picture this year..its phenomenal.
