I am an auntie!!!
It's official!! I am an aunt as of April 28, 2006! My sister-in-law gave birth via C-section to Kitty Elizabeth who weighed 2 lbs 15.75 oz. and was either 16" or 17" long. Both mom and baby are doing great despite the premature birth. Theresa, my SIL, was only 31 weeks (one week shy of 8 mos) and had to be put on bed rest last week due to hypertension. Her blood pressure didn't come down satisfactorily or quickly enough for the doctors, so she was hospitalised earlier this week. They had planned to induce labour but wound up going in with a C-section instead. Baby Kitty is in the NICU nursery and is being fed intravenously (lipids, proteins, sucrose, etc)through the vein in her tummy where her umbilical cord was. My mother-in-law said that once she gains a bit more weight, they'll start a tube down her nose and into her stomach to feed her breastmilk. Don't know just when she'll be allowed to come home but so far, she's doing great! They've even reduced the amount of pure oxygen they're giving her from 40% to 35%, so she's a little fighter! I am SO proud and SO happy! No pictures as of yet, but I'll be sure to post some soon! My MIL says she's an "itty bitty Kitty!" and absolutely darling! I can't wait to get pics!
