And although I know looking forward is better than looking back, sometimes a glance over the shoulder can be illuminating.
January. Started out with many good intentions. I didn't keep up my daily posting in here all year - it petered out after four months or so. It served its purpose though, got me into the habit of writing and helped conquer my fear of the blank page. And I wrote my first het and really enjoyed it.
February. All sorts of plans got derailed for all sorts of reasons. But I stuck to writing my 10-chapter epic.
March. Spring started to happen. I visited an old friend, and learned some new skills.
April. I went to visit
trepkos and we watched lots of birds and lots of films, not both at the same time though. I also started reading through the Eagle of the Ninth fic on AO3 and it gave me ideas... so this was the month I wrote my first and probably my only 'Fuck or Die' story. It wasn't pretty. But it was interesting.
May. The OH and I have been married for 20 years. (Scary. But also wonderful.) I branched out into fluff and curtainfic and had more or less completely got over my inhibitions about the word 'cock' by the time I started on a series of PWPs that began with some shameless voyeurism...
June. Visited yet another old friend and learned that sometimes even your oldest friends may not be quite who you think they are.
July. It was summer. Another crisis rocked the family. But
trepkos came to visit and we went on an Epic Trip to the West Country to visit the filming locations for 'Arthur of the Britons', driving home very late at night under a superb full moon. And I learned how NOT to screw a new ballcock onto a toilet.
August. Holidays by the seaside and a visit to the Preseli Hills to walk a bit of the Golden Road and see where the Stonehenge Bluestones came from. Also fitted in a visit to Stonehenge itself to walk up the Avenue and suddenly understand the context in a way we never had before. I wrote my first AU story but not much else.
September. Back to work and back to writing! A story about amnesia that I think is my favourite of the year. And I finally took the plunge after months of lurking, and joined the
ninth_eagle comm to post my first bit of written-down Eagle fic.
October. Went to visit
trepkos again in an unseasonal heatwave - we went swimming in the sea and ate a lot of cake. As well as doing a lot of research and making lemur masks.
November. I signed up to WriSoMiFu and managed to check in every day bar one. Such fun, and I got quite a bit written, too. Another return visit from
trepkos and another Epic Trip to the cacotopic stain that is South Gloucestershire. Planted our memorial tree to Michael Gothard at long last, and visited another filming location to do a bit of, erm, re-enactment... Also learned how to fix a ballcock with a bit of string, and how NOT to replace a doorhandle. (There always seems to be a bit of a DIY theme when trep comes to stay. Honestly, my house isn't always falling apart, really it isn't...)
December. Finally worked out how to edit my userpics so I could put a Santa hat and a big white beard on Brian Blessed. Added up my writings for 2011 and if the maths is right (no guarantees) I have written and posted about 117,000 words this year of which about 9,500 were for the Eagle fandom. (And more are on the way folks, but you'll have to wait until next year before Llud finally figures out who did the murder, or Esca finally figures out how to get Marcus's breastplate off!)
Here's wishing all my friends and fellow fans a healthy, happy and pornographically satisfying New Year!
