Unlike Oliver - who is as RP as they come, and sounds completely English - Benedict is very German. He has a tremendous sense of fun, though, and clearly adores his brother and is very proud of him. Quite right too. The pair of them were evidently enjoying each other’s company as well as a bit of male solidarity in the face of the overwhelmingly female fan presence.
He chipped in at various points to talk about the theatre productions the two of them had been involved in together, or to reminisce about Oliver playing in a rock band - and he had a lovely AotB story, a tale of waking up one morning in Germany in the early ‘70s and looking out of his window.
It was the morning after AotB had first aired in Germany. And on the football pitch across the way, there were lots of little boys playing… playing Arthur-and-Kai games with toy swords and shields. Benedict recalls thinking proudly: ‘My brother did that!’
And he is still proud about it now.
