Long day today, hence short journal entry tonight.
And as usual I have no idea what will follow.
Deep breath, close eyes, this is the process of me writing (having thrown all of Mr. Braine's doubtless excellent but very irritating advice out of the window except for the bit that says there are no rules)...
Faff around for a bit waiting for a starting point.
Write something completely lame and delete it again. Repeat several times.
Pick random starting point and surround it with teetering scaffolding working forward in time to find out what happens, and backwards in time to find out how it got to that starting point in the first place.
Re-read scaffolding so many times that it starts to look like the real story.
Take more deep breaths and start replacing scaffolding with actual narration and dialogue in some random place but preferably not the beginning or it will be stuck on the first paragraph for evermore.
Get as far as sex scene and grind to a halt.
Write one sentence that mentions a body part, then run away and start writing random fluffy story instead.
Come back and add another sentence or two to sex scene.
Look away from the screen in case that makes it easier, and somehow manage another few words before running away again.
Shut computer down and make a cup of tea.
Repeat above 5 steps until climax is reached.
Rearrange all sentences in sex scene several times. Ditto all paragraphs in the story so far.
Decide it's completely hopeless and throw the whole thing at patient beta reader to sort out...
It still amazes me that I ever get anything finished at all!
