Yuletide/Presents

OMG, people: I got Yuletide fic for Christmas!! (Which I totally was not expecting, being only a pinch-hitter.)

It is the best Lady Teldra fic in the world, right here. The person who wrote it shifted through all my half-formed, last-minute prompts and created a story that is so perfect, and exactly what I didn't even know I wanted. Vlad gets the answer to the question he didn't know he wouldn't have time to ask. Aw.

This fic, set in the same fandom (Steven Brust's Dragaeran Universe), breaks what's left of my heart. So. Good.

And the fic that everyone should read, regardless of fandom: The Fifth Chamber of the Human Heart (Shirley Jackson - We Have Always Lived in the Castle). Because it is fantastically well-written, and creepy as all get out, and you don't need to know the fandom to appreciate it.

Some stuff I gave:

--I got P. a wet suit, and he loves it. Unfortunately for him, I can't actually say 'wet suit' without getting all silly, thanks to that damn commercial. I also gave him candy and beer.
--Lots of Yuletide comments. Everything I've read has been at least good, if not OMG the best thing ever!!

Stuff I gots (besides my totally awesome Yuletide fic):

--Bookshelves!! Three of them, and they match, and there will be pictures, yes. My only bookshelves, now, so I especially appreciate them.
--Candy, mmm.
--The Wire: Season 3
--Comments on the three pieces I wrote for Yuletide!! Of course, now that I've actually a) finished stuff and b) shown it around, I've turned into a total feedback whore. The people I wrote for seem to like what they got, and I don't think they're putting me on. And a couple of other people with no investment in my fic left nice comments, too, so I am very, very happy.

I also found chicken breast in the stores!! Boneless, skinless AMERICAN chicken breast, even. I saved the last of my Rum Vanilla tea for Christmas day, and also the end of Early Autumn by Robert B. Parker, and the beginning of The Fortune of War, my next Aubrey/Maturin book (I read most of it/ finished it yesterday, and it's lovely, probably my favourite out of the last three or four books).

I hope everyone's had a nice holiday, or a nice week, or a nice whatever.

yuletide 2007, yuletide
