Reality Description: Basically it’s the normal world, but under the human society there is another society called the Nightworld where shapeshifters, vampires and witches exist, the main concentrations tending to happen around the Las Vegas area for some reason (though Maya prefers to stay far away from there, announcing her presence to her descendants would probably be equal to suicide.)
The main vampire family is the Redferns, the main witch family is the Harmans, the main shapeshifter family is the Draches… Though the witches and the vampires are considered more important then the shapeshifters and are the ones who tend to ensure the Nightworlds security, all Nightworlders hate the idea of humans finding out about them (think the witch hunts.)
There are two types of vampires really, there are lamia vampires (ones descended directly from Maya and her magically born son (Red Fern), who is now long dead) who can reproduce like humans and then there are made vampires who cannot reproduce and can only be made by exchanges of blood, when the exchange of blood is not enough a ghoul is created (a creature that has no intelligence but longs only for blood.)
There are also soulmates (yes, I know) which is what happens when two souls are bound throughout history, they feel a romantic connection and cling to each other and stuff, Maya has never found her soulmate even though she does have a soul, it happens quite a lot since soulmates are often born in separate continents and even separate times.
One final element to add, Old Souls are generally humans (although they can occasionally be witches, but only very occasionally) who are reincarnated over the centuries in different bodies, AKA Maya’s “nemesis” Hannah (Though really by this point over five thousand years of dedicated stalking has turned it into a kind of obsessive love.)
Oh! Also, all vampires must wear a protective ring (Or necklace, or bracelet) of Lapis Luzuli or else they’ll combust in the sun (This isn’t actually stated in the books but I needed some explanation for why they don’t burst into flames and using the explanation from her other vampires seemed good), Maya can actually survive for short periods in the sunlight due to being the first vampire but two hours is about the limit before she starts to burn up, as such she’ll usually have a necklace tucked under her clothes.
Yet another thing, most vampires are super agile and rather strong, for Maya however she has about the agility of a normal human and only a little more strength… One of the downfalls of being the first vampire.
So, yes, that’s her world, vampires and all.
Powers/Abilities: -Can shapeshift, but only into forms that are roughly about as big as her
-A little stronger than the average human
-Can use tiny bits of magic, but not great big things
-Can create illusions
-Can hypnotize people
