Ramen update

I think I have rediscovered Ramen again! Half a flavoring packet + a dash of sesame oil, soy sauce, & vinegar + several chopped green onions + several spoonfuls of homemade kimchi = awesome cheap lunch. Yeah there's a lot of sodium, but also a couple servings of vegetables in there!

It's kind of pathetic the things I wind up writing about here. January has been a blur of probably misused time - didn't get tons and tons of reading and research prep done, but didn't blow everything off to go have fun, either. So I seem to have chosen the worst of both worlds, I probably should have left town for a weekend or something while I had the chance.

Classes start Wednesday, I think the material I'll study will be interesting but my schedule's not great. Won't know what I'll be TAing for a week or two. [ETA: Actually, about half of us who are TAing this semester just got an email saying we'll find out next week. I guess the lucky other half are either assigned already or got external or RA funding.]

On the bright side, I have read a few fun books, which I rarely have time for during the semester: The Possessed, which I was excited about; Super Sad True Love Story by Gary Shteyngart, which I enjoyed and thought was better than Absurdistan by the end; Freedom by Jonathan Franzen, which I found impossible to put down even though I think it was decent but not amazing (in part because Patty's ways of being "bad" and rationalizing it were frighteningly familiar); and Fargo Rock City by Chuck Klosterman, which made me want to listen to a lot of '80s metal but realize it was a truly different animal from the metal I like today. Now I'm reading The Yiddish Policemen's Union, which I've been looking forward to for a while but have only just started.
