I haven't posted in a while, so I thought I'd waste some time at work and update.
Things are somewhat slow at work, contrary to my initial thoughts on the workload. As I really only handle writing the content on new site builds, it's really limited the amount of work I actually get sent my way. Lately, I've just been fixing issues with RFPs, and most of that is fixing the formatting previously used.
I'm currently sitting on three projects that don't seem to be moving. Two of them are held up because the company owners are either unaware that I'm going to write the content and are writing it themselves, or are just not urgent about having their builds finished quickly. I met with one of them last week and he hadn't even looked at the site comps he was sent three weeks ago. The reality of it is, once I actually get some initial information from them, I'll be done with the work in a day or two.
The larger project is a rebuild of our own site. The pace at which this is going is making me think it won't get anywhere near done for months. I've put together a direction for the voice of the site and my thoughts on some other items to be included in the build, to move the site from being so sterile and more like an agency site. I've also been somewhat tasked with building collateral pieces for pitches and such, but no one has yet put together a meeting to discuss anything because it's being treated as a side project.
I've also done some work for stuff they want to pitch to current clients, but I don't think they've done anything with the stuff yet. It's entirely possible that they were killed and I wasn't informed. They don't really hold production/update meetings involving me yet. They meet on design stuff, just not anything that really involves anything I've been doing.
It also appears that any emails we put together are not being sent my way for copy. I wrote a few last month and was told that the client liked the work. I'm not sure why they're not pushing more my way. I get the feeling that they really don't know how to utilize me here. It's somewhat frustrating, but with the economy the way it is, I'll take the paycheck for now.
In non-work related items, our floor seems to be shrinking with the cooling temps. Only, it appears to be unusually prevalent. We had the installer come out last Friday to fix them, and they didn't get to the whole floor because they didn't realize how much they would need to repair. Basically, they have to tighten up the entire floor now. As I was not home when they did the work (Tam's mom came over) they left after a couple hours and said something about not being able to come back until some time in early December. Since the company that we got the floors through has been given a lot of large projects by Tam's dad, he called and gave his guy an earful. Now the manufacturer is coming out Wednesday and Mario (Tam's dad) will be there to lay the hammer down. We're both concerned that they'll want to rip out the baseboards and are going to absolutely stop that from happening.
We'll be reseeding the yard this weekend, barring possible rain. I'm a bit pissed with the upkeep that is being done to the front (handled by the HOA). We've got one 4x4 patch that is supposed be be filled with flowering ground cover that is almost entirely dead. Nothing has been done to remove the dead stuff, so I finally cut out a bunch of it Sunday. I'm hoping that the green stuff will spread now that I removed the dead, or the rest will die and they'll be forced to replant (once I rip it all out). (Some day I will actually post pictures)
Indoors, we painted an accent wall in the living room. Looks good, and I'm still considering continuing it on the corresponding wall upstairs to make the rest of the railing stand out when you walk in the front door.
That's about it for now.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
