Oblivion: Quick Review

Mar 27, 2006 11:36

So, I've been hooked into Oblivion for week.

Its easy finding good reviews of the game; hell, most everyone and their mother seems to be giving it ratings just shy of perfect. And yeah, it is really good. So, in that light, I'm going to talk about what I don't like about the game.

It's nice to see someone posting something that might not be so great about Oblivion. I know a large group of people that are playing it and it even sold out at the Best Buy near me. I've considered spending some money on the game but I'm still not sure. Thanks for the feedback though.

Go and get it. It is a great game, and well worth the money you pay despite the flaws I listed.

Watching the Havok physics engine at work is amazing. I giggled like a madwoman during my first dungeon crawl: I killed a rat in the sewers, followed quickly by a goblin. The goblin then landed next to the rat, bumping it, and the little dead varmit fell over the ledge into the water. I watched it bob up and down in the current for a bit. Morbid, but super neat.

This is why you haven't seen me on WoW this past week, incase your wondering.

I have been giving serious thought to picking up a 360 this summer and giving this sucker a go. I was looking at reviews of the game just this morning, in fact. Possibly because the craptastic Lord of the Rings: The Third Age RPG has left me with a hankering for some geeky action that it utterly failed to satisfy.

I figured that you had been lost to Oblivion because you aren't the only person that has "gone silent" this past week. Oblivion will most likely be on my plate in the coming week or two but I don't have a burning need to get it yet. Maybe a visit to Carus's will change that as he has a nasty habit of getting me hooked on new games.

And here is the dirty, dirty secret: He lightly dusts his keyboard with crack. That way he'll sit some noob down to try a new "game", and they'll walk away a half day later shaking and thinking ohmygodthisgameisgoodimusthaveitNOW, when really all they're feeling is their nascent drug addiction. I understand he gets a local kickback from the nearby dealers and the closest Best Buy for funneling new customers their way.

Insidious, really.

LOL

There may be truth in this ... I'll have to investigate.

Um, Oblivion isn't an on-line game. Its a single player RPG.
