So, I have been in love with
irisbleufic's original characters Raphael and Uriel (within her Good Omens-verse) for about as long as she's been writing about them, which has been a number of years now! They've mainly appeared in bit-parts and cameos in her GO fiction, but that was enough to get me hooked. She recently wrote
this wonderful story that, for the first time, explores their shared history. In my heart of hearts, I hoped that one day she'd flesh them out, and my wish came true! It's heartbreaking and uplifting and gorgeous. This little mix is my homage to them, one of my longtime OTPs.
For a bit of background: Raphael and Uriel are archangels, obviously, and in
irisbleufic's GO-verse, they live on earth and have thrown their lot in with humans, similar to Crowley and Aziraphale. For centuries upon centuries, they've been co-workers (I use that term loosely) and occasional lovers, when they're so inclined.
This little ficlet is where their dynamic began to shift, and it's a nice precursor to the
The Beach Botanist's Survival Guide, which I've referenced above. Thank you,
irisbleufic, for your incredible fiction and prose, and for always answering my questions about "what are Raphael and Uriel up to these days?" in the form of priceless stories.
1."Angel"-Gavin Friday 2. "Bleeding All Over You"-Martha Wainwright 3. "Human Touch"-Bruce Springsteen 4. "Cold Water"-Damien Rice 5. "This Woman's Work"-Kate Bush*
6. "Meanwhile"-JP, Chrissie, and The Fairground Boys 7. "Something"-The Beatles 8. "Blood of Eden"-Peter Gabriel & Paula Cole * "This Woman's Work" is actually a song for Uriel's fallen angel friend, Tanith. Without giving any major plot points away, Uriel feels a strong bond with and is even rather protective of Crowley when push comes to shove, because he reminds her of her lost friend. Tanith is a mystery, though she appeared briefly in
irisbleufic's epic story
A Crown of Stars. It's unknown whether Uriel and Tanith were friends, lovers, or some combination of the two, but it's clear that Uriel grieved for her deeply. I'd love to find out more, someday. *hint hint* ;)
