I am very much out of the LJ loop these days. I have been without my laptop for two weeks, as it contracted the dreaded "anti-virus 2009" by who knows what means, but now I have it back.
It's daylight savings! Almost spring! I can't wait for it to be warm enough to ride my bike to Trader Joe's and spend time on the sunporch, which right now is too cold to spend any time in at all.
Yesterday I got fitted for glasses with prism lenses. Apparently I've got 20/20 vision but my eyes have trouble focusing when I read on the computer, and these lenses are supposed to correct that. I've had some pretty annoying headaches and eyestrain in the past few days, so I hope they'll be helpful to me when they're ready to pick up.
My big news is....I'm going to be in Edinburgh in less than a month! I can't begin to tell you what this trip means to me. Ten years ago (yikes!) I was a junior in college, and I went to the U of E. It was one of the best times of my life, and I've wanted to go back for a very long time. I believe that I'll get my bearings very quickly, almost as if I hadn't been away, although I admit that I am much more familiar with the Old Town area than I am with the New Town. Boots! Jacket potatoes! Hearing bagpipes on Princes' Street! I'll get to hang out with out friends from my university days, and
ajodasso ,
lifegivingsword and their friend Laura are going to visit me from York, which is a very special treat indeed.
It's difficult to explain the profound sense of homecoming I felt when I first lived there. Despite having absolutely no Scottish ancestry to speak of , I knew that I was simply meant to be there, and in the first month or so when I hadn't made any friends yet, the city itself felt like a friend to me.
Anyhow, just wanted to update, prove I'm not dead, and reconnect with you all. :)
