ITG - In The Groove
This game seems to be a hot debate when it comes to DDR players. Nobody likes knockoffs but nobody wants to see their favorite series end either. In The Groove is a Dance Dance Revolution spin-off that continues the dancing video game craze made by the fans of DDR.
Imagine DDR and then think of all the things you would like in the game. I personally wanted better song selection where you can organize it by "feet of difficulty" and it was put in the game. I also wanted to see a lot more hard steps and songs and that was put in also. I did like the fact that DDR had challenge steps but it was a very small selection of songs that had different steps. Basically, all the mods you might possibly want is in the game; plus there is an addition of mines and handplants in the game also.
Mines - You cannot be on the arrow when these go by
Handplant - You have to hit an arrow with your hand because three/four arrows must be stepped on at the same time. My only gripe actually because I hate handplants. You have to bend over and touch the pad as hard as you can (because obviously your feet will make more impact then your hand) right on the spot where all the dirt and grime was left by other people's shoes.
The graphics has been changed to "solo" colors and the steps has more of a 3-D look to it. This is good because it is more visible and easier to read. The backgrounds I haven't noticed much because they don't really stand out (it's a good and bad thing, you're more focused on the arrows but I miss the dancers and swirling colors and designs)
The music selection is varied also. It is more leaned towards pop and techno genre though. Some are great like Tell and Lemmings but there are some bad ones like the different Mobius mixes(which sounds a lot like Paranoia remixes), which can be expected since everyone like different types of music (I disliked Holic and Japan but Sakura and Miracle Moon were great)
I wished that produces of In The Groove didn't design it where it was meant to take over DDR machines. In my personal opinion, it is not better then DDR Extreme but we have been playing the same mix for 5 years. If Konami won't listen to the fans then games like In The Groove are bound to populate.
Question: How do you feel about In the Groove? Is it honestly better then DDR Extreme?
