It's removed surgically, usually just through a cut placed on the skin. Though, most people haven't been able to get their chips removed because depending on when you came, the location of it might be different than what we know. The doctors that can do chip removals have been trying to figure out the extra location for a while, but, we haven't found anything yet.

After it's removed, you get sick for a day or two, maybe longer. After that, if you have any powers or abilities that you weren't able to use when you had your chip in, you'll have problems controlling them. If you think that it'll be dangerous to be like that, we built a safehouse for people to stay in so no one else in the city gets hurt and nothing gets damaged, but of course it's also for the safety of the person themselves that got their chip removed. I think, about a week or two is when you should be back to normal.

I arrived in early January, so... it sounds like they wouldn't know where it is. Which is fine by me.

So, essentially, a normal person without any powers removing their chip is a waste of time, right?

I've been here since July, and I can't get my chip removed either, even though I'm a doctor and I can remove it myself. I tried looking before but I guess, I'm not very good at it.

[Totally not mentioning that he actually removed it once, but then died of infection, so he's still somewhat hesitant to try and remove it again. Even if he really wants to annoying thing gone so he can help the city and his crewmates more.]

...not really, no.

Did anyone ever tell you what happened here in October?

Mm, I guess if you just poked around enough you could find it... But it's probably too small to see very well with the naked eye.

No, they didn't....

It isn't a good idea to do that though. It might cause unnecessary damage. Removing the chip doesn't mean you have to start... cutting someone up, and be reckless with the removal. That's not what a doctor is supposed to do.

[A short pause. It didn't happen that long ago but the memory is still almost fresh in his head. Remembering it isn't enjoyable but he at least needs to tell you that not having your chip removed is just as dangerous as keeping it in, so he'll skim a lot of details.]

In October, anyone that had a chip in them got very violent. It didn't matter if you did or didn't have powers. They attacked and hurt people. ...Some people even got killed. It only lasted a few days, but afterward everyone was acting normal again.

So, even if you don't need it removed, it isn't exactly an option to keep it in your body. It depends on how safe you'd feel with or without it.

I know it isn't, but....

That's... I'm not sure I know a word to describe how horrendous that sounds.

...people get impatient and want it removed. And I guess it would maybe frustrate a doctor to be unable to help someone like they should, but it shouldn't be done that way. They need to be careful.

It was really bad. I don't want it to happen again.
