((Collab narrative written by Chaud-mun and Proto-mun (
silvercrimson), based on Vol. 6 of the manga))
Deep in the Undernet, where few good Navis dared lurk, the viruses were far stronger than surface ones. Yet even they were no match for the sword slicing them to data fragments at that time.
A Scuttle shrieked in pain as a slash swiped it in half, the sound cut off by its deletion. A red blur was barely visible cutting through the mass.
"As expected, the viruses are a lot stronger this far into the Undernet," Chaud's voice echoed slightly through his Full Synchro with Proto. The blur that was their sword arm whipped out, effortlessly demolishingly another set. "And that's just how I like it!"
Proto's only reply was a hum of approval and to blast through several more viruses. As the last data particles dissipated, a shining light shimmered above them, startling both Navi and operator.
Thou who strives for greater strength...
The light intensified, Proto turning to see the source. "What?! That light..."
With what seperation he had Chaud could check the readouts. "...and that level of energy! Incredible!"
Before his voice even died out Proto's sounded again. "How can such a thing even exist?!"
The shimmering visage of a robed Navi seemed to appear suddenly before them. When it spoke again, it was with a voice neither male nor female.
"The world faces a crisis of unprecedented magnitude..." The echo was stronger than the one from Full Synchro, seeming to come from everywhere and nowhere. The Synchro Navi stared, unaware the energy had lifted them off the ground and that they were hovering while they looked on in awe.
"Crisis?!" Both spoke as one, leaving silence after that for several seconds. Then Chaud found his own voice.
"Just who...are you?"
The robed figure smiled at them. "You do not need to know yet." The echo faded as the light did. "And you are the two beings who combine to form Synchro Proto, are you not?"
"Y-yes," Proto couldn't stop staring. "But...a crisis? What did you mean?"
"I mean no more than what I say," The voice had a calming effect on both. Gradually they realized they were floating, and as they did, their feet lightly touched ground again. "Do you seek the power to defend this world and that which is joined to it by such beings as yourself?"
"Yes," both spoke together. Strong, determined; knowing there was no quarter for loss.
"Then look, and see the answer to your query."
Whether it was an image or real was of no importance at that point, for suddenly they found themselves floating again, only the scene confronting them was far more horrifying than wonderful. A roaring dark beast of many heads, growling as a creature from Hell itself, greeted their sight. They barely dodged a snapping jaw before the scene froze, proving it was an image and not true.
"What is this thing?!" Chaud gasped out as they hovered.
The figure's expression was now deadly serious. "A phantasm conjured from the essence of 'darkness.' That essence is pulling the world towards unparalleled catastrophe." They stiffened, awaiting more information. "If it is not stopped soon...the world will die, consumed in an unholy conflagration." A tiny smirk now pulled at the Navi's mouth. "Thou seeks strength, which I will grant in the form of a sword forged to battle darkness."
"There is such a weapon?!" Proto demanded, hair whipped back by invisible cyberwind.
"Verily!" The smirk was audible now. "But take heed...once you accept the sword, your destiny will be forever altered. No matter how terrible your wounds, or horrible your pain, you will fight until your very life is snuffed out." The words were echoing again, startling them into recollection. The Navi smiled grimly. "Can you bear this burden?"
They didn't reply immediately. The shining figure waited patiently, as if reading their train of thought.
"Up until now...I haven't borne anything." Chaud nearly winced, as the truth behind that rankled. "Time and again, I've left him alone...left him to do the fighting!" Proto's thoughts joined his as the distorted memories from different viewpoints cleared, both speaking together solidly.
"That ends now!!" They were almost a single being as they spoke in unison, acting and thinking like one. "I'll no longer run from any enemy, or any fate!!"
The Navi's eyes closed in concentration, a sword appearing in between the two figures in a swirl of shining light. It was shaped like a katana, the hilt a deep purple, with a guard of pale gold and a sheath of red and black. It seemed almost to be made for them.
"It is done," again the voice echoed everywhere. "Take it...the sword of destiny! Its name -- Muramasa!" As they grasped the hilt and drew it, a brilliant purple light surged from the silvery blade and both gasped in renewed wonder.
The Navi faded, voice going along as well. And know mine...Serenade...the Lord of the Undernet...
The image of darkness had since vanished, their form settling softly on the ground once more. The sheathed the sword once more, buckling it at their side and feeling the enhanced unity it gave them.
"Serenade," Proto spoke softly. "Thank you. We will do everything we can to honor this burden."
((Muramasa Style get! Also...*kills pronouns* Writing Serenade and Synchro Proto in the same scene kills pronoun use. It really does. Since they aren't truly merged until Muramasa, there has to be some distinction in Full Synchro.))
