Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: Hitsugaya is an accomplished swordsman above all else. Whenever combat is joined, the first thing he does is reach for his sword. He also possesses great skill in kidou (magic), able to toss off fairly high-level spells without an incantation.

His sword, Hyourinmaru, contains the spirit of a powerful ice elemental, thus he is very skilled with cold-based abilities. When he releases the sword to shikai state, he can manipulate the water in the air, freezing it and forming it into a sinuous dragon shape that he launches at his enemies. This ability typically freezes solid anything it touches. Also in the shikai state, a sickle blade attached to a chain extends from the sword's hilt; the chain and sickle are cold enough to freeze what they touch.

In bankai state, his hands and feet become covered in icy talons, an ice tail forms, and a pair of huge ice wings extend from his back. These wings are fully functional, allowing him to fly. In fact, every frozen appendage of the bankai is functional, and he has been known to use any and all of them should the situation demand it. He manipulates ice in various ways, but a few are of note.

First is the Thousand Year Ice Prison. Using the surrounding water in the atmosphere, he creates multiple pillars of ice in an almost cage-like formation around his target. When he gives the sword a quarter turn, these pillars crash together, enveloping the target completely. However powerful this ability is, Hitsugaya rarely uses it; creating the pillars takes a long time and just isn't viable in most battles.

Next is the Ice Clone. He is able to create a lifelike replica of himself out of ice, so realistic that it even appears to bleed. Its true nature isn't revealed until after it has been struck, giving him the opportunity to launch a surprise attack. He prefers to save this technique until he deems it absolutely necessary, and will not attempt it a second time in the same battle because the element of surprise would be lost.

The last, and most dangerous, is the Hundred Flower Funeral. He causes dark clouds to form in the sky, and they drop snow down in a wide radius. When the snow touches something, an ice flower blooms at this spot. When the snow stops, and all the flowers bloom, it usually means death for any living creature encased within the flowers. Because of the high chance of this affecting allies or bystanders, he will only use it in the most extreme circumstances.

Weapons: His soul slayer, Hyourinmaru. It is a katana that reaches perhaps four feet or so in length from hilt to blade's tip, nearly as long as Hitsugaya is tall. The guard is in the shape of a four-pointed star. In shikai state, the sword gains a chain with a sickle blade attached to the bottom of the hilt.

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History: Here
Point in Canon: Chapter 359

Character Personality: The first aspect of Hitsugaya's personality that anyone would notice is how utterly serious he is. Most things that others would consider fun are things that he would consider frivolous wastes of time. While he does have a sense of humour, it's very deeply buried and very sarcastic. He'll only allow it to come out around people he knows well and is comfortable around.

He's highly irritable, but usually keeps it hidden under a flat, cold expression. People often tease and poke fun at him and most of the time he is able to let it slide and deal with whatever business is at hand. However, if someone should continue to press his buttons, he can't always keep his temper under control and takes to yelling at the offender.

Hitsugaya isn't much of a talker and has difficulty relating to others. Because of his high position of military command, much of what he says comes off as giving orders. It's how he's comfortable. Expressing his emotions is foreign territory to him, and he tries to avoid doing so as much as he can. Even when he cares for someone, he tries not to make it very obvious. He'll remain surly and gruff, but those who know him will notice that his voice lacks the edge of true anger or annoyance, and he will make small allowances that he would otherwise deny. He truly does care; he just doesn't want to look like a softie.

Physically, he's a child, and he loathes any reference to this. He finds it highly objectionable that anyone would call him cute or constantly address him in an informal manner. Habitually, he will correct people when they do the latter, demanding that they refer to him by his title. He's worked hard to achieve his standing and anything he sees as disrespecting that is not something to be tolerated.

Hitsugaya is extremely devoted to those he cares for. He will watch over them at every turn if he can, check up on them to ensure that they're safe and well. Without a second thought, he would give up his rank - which he values highly - or even his life in order to protect them. While this is admirable, it makes him easily goaded into unthinking fury when an enemy brings up or harms one of those few who are dear to him. His emotions overwhelm his usually logical mind and he acts impulsively, usually ending up severely injured as a result.

He is an extremely determined person who places a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. If something goes wrong for him, he is quick to assume that he could have done something to prevent it. In the aftermath, he will do everything that he can to make himself better and more prepared; he simply will not allow the same mistakes to happen again.

Character Plans: He'll try to adjust to the port by taking charge. Much of the time, however, he'll be reacting to people who (for some reason; he doesn't know why) think he's a child. Which will result in him generally being a grump to everyone around him.

[Any spiritually aware residents might notice Hitsugaya's sudden appearance, as he arrives while in full bankai. However, the bankai is dismissed before he turns on the NV.

Hitsugaya is clearly standing outside, what with the snow falling around him and the wind occasionally whipping his haori about. He looks somewhat battered and his expression is distinctly unhappy.]

Am I really to believe what I've been told? That I got dragged off into some damn other world? I - [Here, a Greeter gives him a reassuring pat on the head and he shoves the hand away, scowling.] Don't touch me.

Is this your doing, Aizen? Another one of your games? I'm not your personal plaything, damn it; I won't be toyed with like this again.

[His voice dips here, scarcely audible and his expression is more sombre.] Hinamori? Matsumoto? Did you get dragged here, too? If anything else happened . . .

His senses were on high alert, and he still didn't understand how the hell he had come to be in a baseball field instead of a battlefield. For a few moments, he held his sword at the ready, icy wings poised to propel him away if need be. A sudden change in location hardly meant safety.

But after these few moments, it became clear to him that there were no threats currently present. Straightening, he dismissed his bankai and sheathed Hyourinmaru. This problem would require his intellect, not his power.

"Oh, you poor child! Thank goodness you're safe; when I saw that beast appear, I wouldn't have expected to find anyone alive in its wake." A tall woman hurried toward him, her cheeks pink from the cold. "Though I wouldn't have expected it to just vanish, either, come to think of it."

Hitsugaya blinked. Beast? Oh, right. His bankai. He was about to ask the woman just what the hell was going on here, but she started babbling again before he could form any words.

"Come now, little one. You must be so cold and frightened." She angled herself behind him and placed her hands firmly on his shoulders. "Here, I'll help you along."

It wasn't until she started pushing him forward that he found himself able to speak. "Hey! Damn it, I'm not -"

"Shh. Let's get you warm and safe first. Then I'll explain everything for you, okay? It'll be all right."

Not cold. Not frightened. Not a child, damn it all. This woman was insane. And she just kept shoving him along toward the bullpen, stupidly ignoring all of his perfectly legitimate and serious protests. If she hadn't promised him information, he wouldn't have tolerated any of this idiocy at all.

As it was, he just scowled. Hell if he was going to let the woman deny him that.
