Yeah, I actually decided to fill this out. Clearly, I am bored and think too deeply about this kid. Oh, well. :)
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy? He stands all of 4"4. He's also pretty slim, weighing only sixty-two pounds, but I imagine there's some ranginess in his build.
2. How old is he? At least in his sixties, though no actual age has been given.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch? He carries himself straight and proud. He has a lot of dignity; standing up straight also makes him appear taller.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities? Very fit. He has to be, considering his line of work. He has no diseases or conditions, and his body functions perfectly.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid? Swiftly and purposefully, and with a kind of deadly grace when he's in combat.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror? He honestly doesn't give any thought to whether or not he's attractive; he doesn't care. As long as he looks tidy and professional, that's enough for him. He's physically a child, so "attractive" isn't the best word to describe him anyway, but he's perceived by many observers to be cute.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred? He's light-skinned, and though he has no visible scars, he may have some in places that aren't readily seen.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style. It's white, rather soft, and spiky. One lock of hair is perpetually in his face.
9. What color are his eyes? A very striking shade of green; they're one of the first things people notice about his appearance.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features? Nope, he's otherwise unremarkable physically.
11. What are his chief tension centers? His jaw, mostly; he clenches it a lot. Also his shoulders and his hands.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit? A mix of utilitarian and casual, in dark or neutral tones. There's not a ton of variety, because he doesn't see the point in that. Whatever works, he sticks with.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them? Yes to both. He wouldn't be wearing them otherwise.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences? Well, his work uniform is an old-fashioned shihakushou, but in the mortal world he opts to dress in whatever the modern style is. It's just more practical that way.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando? Oh, geez. I don't even know. Boxers, probably. Don't ask me why; I have no idea.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse? It's perhaps a little deeper than that of your average ten to twelve year old, which is how he appears physically. But he definitely still sounds young; you wouldn't mistake his voice for that of an adult.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate? He normally speaks very evenly, only yelling when extremely annoyed or angered. He's not a hesitant speaker when he has something to say; he just doesn't always have things to say.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics? Nope. He's very clear, precise, and to the point.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency? Fluent in Japanese, of course. And English in Siren's Port.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations? He wouldn't see this as necessary.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words? He speaks when he needs to and is decisive. Normally, he doesn't have to think unless he's consciously trying to spare someone's feelings. He doesn't do that with many people, though.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change? Eloquent. He doesn't fumble or falter when he speaks. This can change in discussions about positive emotions, though -- particularly those pertaining to romance and its associated behaviours. That's foreign territory for him, and he'll sputter and fumble a bit.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart? He's been hailed as a genius in the shinigami arts. Both book and street-smart, with tactical proficiency and adaptability, too.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate? While he prefers to deliberate and consider all possible scenarios, he'd be dead if he tried to do that in an emergency combat situation. When battle is joined, he's a very quick thinker.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical? Logical and practical for the most part; he gets annoyed by people who are too much the opposite. That being said, he often trusts his instincts as well.
4. What kind of education has the character had? Military education at the Spirit Arts Academy. He excelled so much in all the classes that he graduated the six year program in only one.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about? Swordsmanship and kidou are things that he is exceptional at. Where he fails and wishes to have more understanding is the more emotional side of people.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert? This is actually kind of difficult to say, but I'd lean more toward an introvert. He's not shy, but tends to find dealing with people to be more stressful than not.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven? Normally, he's calm and apathetic. Though he annoys easily, he's not exactly prone to emotional outbursts. He's very driven and goal-oriented, and it bothers him when other people are not.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic? Suspicious, definitely. He doesn't trust readily and will try to investigate the facts on his own.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react? Act. He hates passivity.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight? Fight. No question about it.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks? It's rarely seen, but his sense of humour is very dry and sarcastic, prone to making not-so-nice remarks that he often doesn't actually mean.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them? Nope, he's pretty mentally healthy.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person? His decision to become a shinigami so that he wouldn't accidentally kill his grandmother with his power. His reaction to seeing Hinamori bleeding out on the floor. His asking if Matsumoto is all right just before the battle with the Espada, because Gin is there.
14. What does he fear? Being useless. More specifically, being unable to protect those he holds dear.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations? He'd like to avenge Hinamori's treatment at Aizen's hands. Personally.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him? That he does like some things that are deemed childish. Like tops, ice cream, candy . . .
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents. He has no parents. It's likely they've been dead for quite some time.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like? No.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand? He has no blood relations that we're aware of.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them? Definitely. The woman who sheltered him in Rukongai, he considers his grandmother. Hinamori grew up next door to him, and he acts toward her as younger brother would to an older sister. Matsumoto is another older sister figure to him, though seeing as he's her superior officer and all, he's always telling her what to do. But he makes small allowances for these three people that he wouldn't make for anyone else.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet? Going to get some repeats on these answers, because hey. He considers them family for a reason, right? Hinamori is without question his best friend. They probably met when his Granny took him in, since she lived right next door and is the friendly sociable type that doesn't give up when somebody is a grouch.
6. Does he have other close friends? He's close to Matsumoto, and though he's friends with Jidanbou, I don't know that he's anywhere near as close to him. In Siren's Port, the closest friend he's made is Kazuma, and next on that list is probably Ella.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people? Hah. Trouble getting along with people. He's not particularly sociable, and he's very blunt. These traits don't really endear him to most people. But if someone is persistently nice and treats him with respect, he can't exactly say that he hates them.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends? Family. Because that's what his closest friends are.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once? Um, he's physically a kid. Not married, never been.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse? Not in one at all.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest? The answer to both is Hinamori. He won't admit it, and doesn't actually see his feelings this way. But he does have a feeling toward her that isn't familial in nature.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner? Not that he's looking, but he'd want someone with a backbone -- though somebody he would protect, too. Someone who can put up with grumpy bluntness is a must.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any? Fffft. Yeah, right. I don't think he'd be opposed to the idea of having kids, though. He'd be a secret softie for them and be super-protective. Nobody would mess with his kids, man.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies? Gin is kind of both, in a way. Aizen is just an out-and-out enemy. There are no words to describe how much he hates him.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the
Kinsey scale? He's not exactly interested in sex, really. However, he'll recognize if a girl is cute or not based on his own set of standards. I'd put him at a 0 if anywhere.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him? It's not something he thinks about. However, he does feel that it's a personal private matter between the parties involved and shouldn't be discussed openly. Hearing about it makes him uncomfortable, and like hell he ever talks about it.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits? Uh, yeah, not giving this any consideration. Again: he's physically a child. That being said, I imagine he's got a fondness for nice legs.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (
zodiac of
choice) sign? How well does he fit type? He's a Sagittarius, but just barely. He fits in the cases of being blunt, independent, and preferring the outdoors, but overall not that well. His most prominent traits are more those of a Capricorn.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life? Given that he's a spiritual being himself, it'd be kind of silly for him not to be spiritual. In his view, that's pretty much the same as being practical. It's the basis of his very existence.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it? He has a strong sense of justice and a desire for order and efficiency. But all bets are off if his family is threatened -- Hinamori in particular. Her well-being trumps everything else.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent? He does his best to be tolerant, not being one to impose his beliefs on others. He might be critical of them, but he won't demand someone give them up.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them? I'd have to say that he's prejudiced toward Arrancar. He sees them more as just more powerful versions of Hollows than as being possessed of any true humanity. For the most part, this is justified, but there are those who don't fit the mold.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt? He's probably pretty well-off in Soul Society, considering that he's a captain. But he's thrifty and definitely not extravagant. He might just have a good share of money because he doesn't spend on anything but necessities. In Siren's Port, he's comfortable. He's got a nice house, but it's not tremendously upscale or anything.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him? In Soul Society, being a shinigami captain is a pretty big deal, so his social status is probably pretty high. Not to the extent of nobility perhaps, but not just anybody qualifies to be a shinigami captain; it's a prestigious position. This is a big change from his life in Rukongai, where even the cleanest and safest areas pale in comparison to Seireitei. He hasn't really changed that much due to his status, though he might have become bossier since he's now officially in a position of authority.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others? In Soul Society, he probably has a house or a spacious barrack, as befitting his station. In Siren's Port, he lives in a nice house in a quiet neighbourhood. It's in excellent condition, of course; he wouldn't tolerate anything less. He lives alone in Soul Society, but in Siren's Port, he shares his house with Byakuya.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on? Frankly? Not much. He's not the frivolous type.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else? Shinigami captain at home, and yes he's very good at it. He does enjoy the work; the physicality of it and the sense that he's doing something useful to protect people gives him satisfaction. In Siren's Port, he delivers packages during the Darkness. He's good at this, too, but he can't be said to enjoy it. A shinigami captain being relegated to delivery work grates on him, even if he gets to keep his combat skills sharp.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time? Spinning tops. He won't admit he still does this, but it's true. He has a certain fondness for reading, and conversing with his sword. In Soul Society, he'd spend his off time visiting Jidanbou or his grandmother, but neither of them are in Siren's Port. Here, he probably makes it a point to check on Kazuma from time to time.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods? He tries to eat healthy, and denies liking anything sweet. (But he will indulge in such things occasionally.) He's skipped meals on occasion when he's working a lot, or dealing with something emotionally, but not too often. He avoids anything that can be said to stunt growth, and this includes alcohol. Anything that's said to promote growth, he'll at least try. Like milk. He keeps the refrigerator well-stocked with milk.
