A polite summons in a moment of need (Dionysus)

May 11, 2007 00:34

Standing before the altar in her bedroom, Emma prepared the things she needed. For Hermes it would have been another vice-president, or perhaps Tessa as she'd been annoying as of late. For this guest, it was a wonderful vintage red that she had been saving for years in the wine cellar in Boston ( Read more... )

And so she shall see him!

Where Hermes would have likely walked out of the closet, tripped on something and grinned like a twit, Dionysus just walks out of the corner of the room. How did he get there? Why didn't you see him arrive? It's best not to ask.

"Hello Emma."

Not many startled Emma. It would seem Dionysus was off to a good start. Spinning around, she faced him and was suddenly glad she was in a startling white business suit rather than her Hellfire attire.

"Evening. Thank you for coming to see me."

"Really, it's no trouble at all."

While Hermes usually reminds people of puppies, Dionysus tends to make people think of large cats -- it's the too sharp smile and the confident walk.

She watches how he moved, realizing how very little she knew of him. Sightings at events they'd both attended, stories from friends. But this was her first up close and personal with a man that seemed to be loved, and yet infuriated at times, a dear friend.

"Can I get you anything? A drink, perhaps?" A silken robe and a sacrifice? Ritual nudity? Taking a deep breath, she worked to control her thoughts.

"I'd love a glass of whatever you're having." See? He can be a good guest. It never lasts, but he can be one.

Dionysus seems self-contained, well controlled and perfectly convinced that he can and should act like he owns the place.

Nodding, she poured a healthy dollop of the vintage into a pair of stemmed glasses, handing on to him as she edged closer.

"I admit, I wasn't sure you would come. I believe the last time I saw you, before that moment at Hermes', was back with that little incident with the poppers."

"I think you're right." He sips at the wine and smiles -- it's acceptable. "Now, what've you called me here for?"

She doesn't waste time. "I desire something from you that I suspect Hermes may be less than willing to share with me. He and I are friends,' she says softly, not wishing to get into detail on that. "He cares about my well being where you may not."

"He cares about being seen as caring, whereas I do not. That's the real difference."

Whether or not it's true doesn't really matter, the fact still stands.

Smiling at that, Emma takes a sip as she moves closer, closing the gap between them.

"I need something from you. Hermes... through him I've had a small glimpse of what true power is and it calls to me." She doesn't need to say that the song comes in the same form as the cocaine, deadly and desperate. She is certain that is in her tones. "I want more."

"It will kill you, you know that?" He doesn't want to harm someone that Hermes likes. Well, not without their permission.

"Over time. He said it could over time,' she whispered, desperation certainly creeping into her tones. "I..."

Emma turned away, pacing. The wine glass was held so tightly in her hand that the stem cracked and she didn't even notice. "I need it,' she finally admitted. "I... I haven't felt this way since the cocaine. It was like.. the most amazing power trip ever. It was... He was... And then Grey changed for me as well, showing me the wolfgod within and..."

Turning back, she looked much like she likely did in her addict days. "I don't know what else to do."

"He would do it over time. I won't make any such silly promises." He's perfectly relaxed and enjoying her discomfort.

"...and you want me to help with your little, hmm, craving? What do I get?"

"So you're saying I need to pay you to kill me,' Emma asked, chuckling softly. "Hardly seems fair, Darling."

Realizing that the glass is broken, she moves to toss it into the sink, turning her back on her guest.

"What is it you desire for this gift?"

"I don't know yet, but I'm sure that given enough time I'll think of something, but for now, come here." She might notice that no matter how much he drinks from his glass, it's never empty.

"Yes, because owing you is the most brilliant thing I'll ever do,' Emma says in completely dry tones. It doesn't stop her from moving to stand slightly to his side.

"Shall I sit and roll over now?"
