You probably do believe in some sort of higher power, but you just don't realize it. It's tricky to explain, even to yourself, exactly what your beliefs are. I had a period of confusion myself, where i knew that my beliefs didn't really fit in with Christianity. It took me a few years to sort things out after i finally gave up on trying to believe something that i just didn't. My advice would be to examine other religions and spiritual beliefs. You will benifit in two ways: you will have a much greater understanding of people in general, and you may come across something that matches what you believe or very nearly so. Sometimes it helps you to be able to describe your feelings if you can base it on somebody else's experience. I had that sort of revelation in Mr. Timm's class, actually, when we were discussing newton's watchmaker approach to god.

God is not the only motivation for moral values. Many values do stem from the church, but in the modern day they are continuations of traditions that have been passed on for hundreds of years. Many common values appear to be based on Christianity because, for a time, the Catholic church was the highest power in the western world. Another interesting point is that most religions share the same core values. This is not a coincidence.
