So many things have been going on lately. I've been quite tired and sleep deprived for a while, so I haven't had the energy to write in this.
After work on Friday Brian and I left for Austin to ride street and go to the Jed Rogers benefit at the T-1 Ramp. I got off at eleven and Brian had to get some stuff at his house, so we got on the road by 12. Thankfully, we got my friend Luis' phone number from Trey five minutes before we left, so we had a place to stay that night. It was pretty nice to go down with just one other person, we talked the whole drive down about pretty much everything. I hadn't gotten to really get to know Brian, and I am thankful that we conversed (finding out a lot about each other). We switched off in Waco and got to San Marcos at about 4 where Luis was waiting to greet us. We said our hellos and watched a few riding movies before everyone decided to get some sleep. Eventhough I had worked a full day and driven about two hours I wasn't able to sleep. It sounds really childish, but I was way too excited about riding the Terrible One ramp to go to bed. I remembered that I brought The Perks of Being a Wallflower, so I read that. At about six I started to knod off, so I closed my eyes. Not two seconds later I hear tires screech and a deafening crash. I grabbed Brian's phone and went outside to see a wreck on 35. I was on the other side of the highway, so I couldn't help unless I ran across three lanes of traffic which didn't sound like the best idea. I called 911 and reported the wreck and went back inside because I couldn't do anything else.
The next day I went to breakfast with Luis at a little Mexican place by the campus. The pancakes were amazing ,but didn't come close to some I'd had a week before. We rode around town for a little bit and it looks like there are going to be some nice places to go when I'm in school this fall.
We finally got on the road back to Austin at about 11:30 when Brian and Luis' roomates finally got up. The drive isn't long at all, and I still couldn't even think about sleep. We went to 5 hip ditch and rode there for a little bit, but it was wet and covered with green sludge. Brian and I decided to head over to T-1 whilst Luis and his roomates went to some curved walls.
We got to the ramp at about 1:30 and there were only about 15 people there. Brian and I got to ride the ramp with an Austin local whose name escapes me, Joe Rich, and Taj Mihelich for a while. I don't know how to start explaining Joe and Taj's riding, but it is definately something to sit back and watch. They both air about 6 feet out both ways and go 500 miles per hour through the bowl corners. I probably only got off of the ramp around 8 times through the course of the day. It was perfect! The lip threw you straight up, not out.
I took a break towards the end of the day, talked to Taj, played with Roscoe, and talked to Joe. Everyone has said they are incredibly nice/cool, but I didn't really have an idea until I met them. Taj gave me a handlebar sticker because mine got torn up, and we talked about a variety of things. Joe and I talked about photography and tattoos for a while. He had some good advice on both. When I introduced myself to him he actually told me it was fun watching me ride that day. I know it sounds lame, but Joe Rich said it was fun to watch ME ride? Needless to say, I was floored for the rest of the day.
I got some stuff out of the free box and said goodbye to everyone before Brian and I left at about 8:30. I slept for about an hour on the ride home, supposedly missing a near wreck.
Eventhough the trip was technically less than two days it felt like an eternity. I can't wait to go back to Austin/San Marcos. Thank you Luis!!
