Wandering threads

Kevin returned to work today after his month of convalescent leave. This meant, sadly, shaving off the lovely Van Dyke he's had for the past few weeks.

He initially didn't go all the way; he just removed the beard. The resulting mustache made him look so much like Lt. Dangle that it was kind of creepy. Creepy enough that even though he'd intended to keep it for at least a few days, he went ahead and shaved it off.

And no, I didn't take photos. I really should have. (We are hoping that whatever civilian job he ends up with will permit him to have the Van Dyke. It really suits him.)

We did see Reno 911! Miami, incidentally. It wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. The timing is off (too many bits are dragged out too long) and they resorted to more cheap sexual humor than they really needed to. There's something to be said for the discipline in having only 22 minutes and the restrictions of basic cable. However, the bits that *are* funny are really, really funny, and my regard for a certain former pro wrestler who knows not to take himself seriously has increased thanks to his cameo in it.

We also saw Tears of the Black Tiger as intended. It's slower than I remembered; the "WTF?" factor is in isolated pieces, not so much throughout the entire film, and thus it lags at times. But that factor is still pretty high, and it's still remarkable to look at (all fuchsia and turquoise and mustard yellow and blinding white, with blatantly unreal backdrops mixing with "reality") and process. I'm glad I saw it again, and Kevin enjoyed it.

We have about six weeks left of being in the military. It would be a big change even without the financial and medical uncertainties we have. With those, it's a pretty big source of angst. And since angst is boring, I don't have much to talk about these days.
