Today in wildlife

A hummingbird came onto the back porch to see what all the fuss is about. It's December. A hummingbird! And it was shoving the finches out of its way.

I need a hummingbird feeder.

In slightly more odd, but rather delightful, wildlife news:

"Snow Leopard is produced in small batches by Polmos Lublin of Poland. Polmos Lublin has been making the very finest vodkas in small batches for over 100 years. Snow Leopard vodka is the first Luxury Vodka made from pure Spelt grain (the oldest and purest grain on the planet), natural spring water and is 6 times distilled. Snow Leopard features a fresh floral and anise aroma, with a rich body of creamy vanilla, nut and peppery spice flavours. Ultra smooth and clean finish. Gold Medal winner Beverage Testing Institute 2010, 92 points. Meredith May, President of Tasting Panel scored it at 94 points. Snow Leopard vodka was set up to help save the Snow Leopard from extinction, and donates 15% of its profits to the Snow Leopard Trust."
(emphasis mine)

Just became available in the U.S., currently only at Wally's. $40/bottle, not bad for an import.

(I have not had time to write about last weekend's adventures, but one of the things I did was eat a tiger. For the record, it was chocolate with vanilla buttercream. No, this kind of thing doesn't raise a huge amount of money, but it's a fun way to bring the issue to people's attention and hopefully some of them will go further into the issue, which is what we really need.)

edit: Bwahaha. I went downstairs for something, and there were about a dozen assorted songbirds on the back porch and the steps, snarfing up everything the chickadees and finches are spilling. Some of them literally had seed falling out of their mouths, they'd picked up so much. The feeder was just under half full when I got up this morning; it looks like they're going to pretty much empty it by sundown.
