No, this is not about the basketball shoe.
Valentine. Lord Wiktionary defines it thus:
-BEGIN-
Noun
valentine (plural valentines)
A greeting card or note given to someone you love on February 14th.
A person to whom a valentine is given or received, on February 14th.
-END-
A lexical definition such as that... is utterly devoid of meaning. A delicious irony, is it not? Don't get me wrong. For an academic, that would be a dead-on definition. However, I am not an academic. And such matters were never meant to be in the academic realm.
"The heart has its reasons of which reason knows nothing." - Blaise Pascal
Indeed, besides politics, there are several other contested terms. And I think, "valentine" is one of them. In lieu of this, permit me to state what I think a Valentine to be:
Anywhere, with you.
Yes. As in,
"Anywhere, with you
drive me away 'cause the night just feels right
take me away with you tonight."
from Urbandub's First Of Summer.
And there you have it. The Answer. :)
