iconsomnia rebooted!

So, there was this thing called the-lj-reboot, which was the livejournal equivalent of something I'd always wanted to participate in (the css reboot (november 2005)), most deftly run by grrliz. Of course, I knew I wanted to participate, and decided to reboot this journal, because it was seriously out of date and I was more than a little bored with it.

Want to take a look?

It took me a while to come up with the journal in the form you see it in now. From the outset, though, there were a few things I was determined to acheive:

1. I wanted the layout to be simple. This journal is for icons, and I thought it would be stupid to have a layout that really detracted from what I wanted people to concentrate on.

2. I didn't want it to be immediately recognisable as a livejournal layout.

3. I wanted it to stick out from all the other reboot designs as much as possible. I decided that as it looked like just about everyone was going to be using s2 (guided by the fantastic tutorials that grrliz posted), I was going to use good ol' s1 Generator. And as I figured pretty!fandom!headers were going to be all the rage, I was going to go for something... else.

As for the colour-scheme, I've always tried to go for something a little relaxing, a little bedroom-y (to tie in with the journal's name), or a little night-y. So, neon colours were out. Although I tried to come up with something with a dark more-or-less-greyscale theme, I've again wound up with heavy use of light blue (it's becoming a trend with this journal), and wallpaper-like subtle patterns.

My own 'style' when it comes to graphics also came into play. I'm just no good at grunge, or 'collage'-styles (it always looks so formulaic, thus missing the point), so minimalistic it is. Lots of white space, easy-to-read typography (I hope) and minimal use of images.

Anyway, I could ramble for hours and hours and hours, but my hands are getting sore, so the above will have to do.

Any feedback you've got would be swell. :)

ETA: Forgot to mention, that Oscar Wilde quotes are also becoming a trend in this journal - I know most people won't scroll to the bottom, but I've got the ol' 'All art is quite useless' quote in the footer. XD Just because it makes me happy. ♥

Also, I've hit the 750 friends limit, so I've removed all friends except for those journals I'm affiliated with, which can now be seen by clicking 'affiliates' at the top of this journal. So don't take it personally if I've removed you. :P
