Any cool tips? When I make text icons, using dingbats always adds something extra to them to make them not so boring. And using different shades of the same color always makes it look good.
If I have a particularly blurry picture, I duplicate the base, sharpen the copy, leave it as a normal layer, but set it around 20%.
You don't always need a blue Exclusion layer. Most of the time I use that to even things out, but I prefer bright, shiny icons :D

What is this you speak of? What does it do?

Because the white background was just SO DAMN BRIGHT that using that exclusion layer toned it down.
Or like this one:
That has a really light layer on top of it, it evens out the brightness somehow. Try it out! It's kind of cool. But people tend to use it too heavily, I think. Like this Aragorn icon has one too because it was really dark and then really bright, so now it's just slightly better haha.

Yeah you know, I like the shiny icons too so I don't really use it very often. But once in a while it came make something look awesome.

But like ack said, you have to be careful with it. It can get too yellow. :\
