I've been toying with the idea to make these sort of icons, actually. but it feels like stepping into an entirely new ~world~ and it feels a bit intimidating (which is not based on any experience or thing I've read, it's just my brain, really). like, does one need to be good at colouring/drawing per mouse/tablet to be considered good?

If you're worried about drawing/colouring then you could always use anime caps/scans first rather than colouring manga pages. :)

People use anime icons just as much as they use manga ones, sometimes more since good manga colorists are hard to find.

I think part of the issues is that the animanga community is so spread out compared to a lot of other fandom communities. It's easy to find icons for popular live action series, because the fandom tends to be huge. Animanga doesn't really have that as a rule (there are some exceptions, but even then it's still nothing compared to the LA fandoms)
