Been there done that and it's not fun to be torn apart by these people. Luckily, some nice anons came to my defense, but still I can't even tell you how much it hurt to be called names and ripped on. And only because one anon didn't think I deserved to have my icons nommed at magicawards. ):
I really don't think we're that bad at anon_icon. To be honest, I'm kind of annoyed with the flak the comm gets. That community has made me a better iconer - and some of that is because of the negative criticism I've gotten.
We don't sit there and pick apart every icon post and every iconer - yeah every once in a while someone comes along and says something negative about someone's icons, but usually (admittedly, not always) a bunch of people come in to defend it.
I kinda feel the same way anon. I'm not super popular or anything, but I'm in elite comms and stuff, so I guess my name's out there. I just make a point to never visit icon_anon(I have a strong dislike for most anon comms) so I never know if my stuff's being picked apart. Still, I hope you keep getting better and better, and that you get good enough to be praised there, anon(if you're not already).
Okay, I actually agree with everything the anon said above about anon_icon. It honestly isn't as bad as some people think it is, most of those people basing it completely on the first couple of days which should have been expected to be the worst part of the entire meme. Yes people/icons do still get brought up from here and there, but like that anon said, usually someone comes and "defends" them (though it's not really defending it's more saying they disagree since after all DIFFERENT STROKES, DIFFERENT STROKES). Overall though, it is pretty tame and can be supportive in it's own way.
But even feeling the way I do about anon_icon I still think this:
Fuck 'em. Just because some people may or may not feel like you deserve your nominations, the person who nominated you and everyone who +1'd you think you do and that should out weigh any other opinions. It's not a trip to disneyland ~being in this situation~ (granted I get most of my flack based on personality, but some on icons and overall not as much as others) but it's not the end
