oh gods yes. one of my biggest pet peeves about icons is when the cap or picture has been squeezed or stretched to fit 100x100. i'd rather an nonstandard sized icon than distorted. put it on a solid background. something, anything but change the aspect ratio.

This is such a pet peeve for me, it ruins so many otherwise great icons for me. How hard is it to keep the aspect ratio?

Oh, I doubt that's true. Even if it were, it's cuz there are so many styles and looks that catch on and that lots of makers gravitate towards at certain times. It's not like you're copying anyone on purpose!
