Problem solved.

Goddamn windows. Goddamn amazon seller.

So, I bought myself an very inexpensive secondhand scanner, since I need one for some of the freelance stuff I'm doing. The amazon seller's report mentioned nothing about compatibility problems, but now that I have the scanner (a Canon CanoScan FB630U) and its installation CD, I'm not able to install it on my computer, since, as the installation CD "oops, there's been a problem" menu informs me, this scanner was designed for Mac or for Windows 98, but not for Windows XP, which is what I have. (Please pardon the run-on sentence.)

The logical but highly annoying thing to do would be to box up the item and ship it back to the seller, who really should have made it clear on his/her page that this scanner wouldn't work for all computers. But I do need a scanner, and I don't have a lot of money, and I really would like to keep this one, if at all possible. Do any of you techie types out there have any suggestions? Is there some sort of marvelous driver I can download to fix my compatibility issue?
