This is a picspam for halfamoon's current celebration of female characters. I decided to make a picspam for a small selection of my favorite non-English speaking female characters ("non-English speaking" here meaning that they primarily speak in another language since some of these characters may codeswitch or speak occasional sentences in English). I've hopefully kept the spoilers to a minimum in case you want to check any of these out. :) I know that I definitely need to diversify my exposure to non-English media and I hope that I can find and add more awesome ladies in the future!

Film: Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain
Language: French
Character: Amélie Poulain

Amélie Poulain is a shy but caring woman who devises roundabout ways to interact with the people around her. She is very empathetic and imaginative and watching this movie makes you excited to see what she encounters next.

Show: Capital Scandal
Language: Korean
Character: Cha Song Joo

Cha Song Joo has survived a tragic past to become a popular courtesan in Japan-occupied Seoul in the 1930's. She can swing dance, look elegant in a potato sack, and assemble a rifle in 35 seconds.

Film: Jab We Met
Language: Hindi + Punjabi
Character: Geet Dhillon

Geet Dhillon is possibly the most talkative, vivacious girl in existence but you can't help but fall for her charm. She's spontaneous and heavily optimistic but she is in control of her agency and makes sure everyone else knows this.

Film: Mulan
Language: Mandarin
Character: Hua Mulan

This Mulan didn't need any song + training sequences to learn to be "swift as the coursing river", etc.; she's pretty much capable of pwning others from Day 1.

Show: Türkisch für Anfänger
Language: German + Turkish
Character: Yağmur Öztürk

Yağmur is a young, Turkish, devout Muslim girl living with her brother, her father, and her new German stepfamily. She is all too often found at the crossroads of the two cultures but she navigates her world with style.
