How to go from
to

(Created in Photoshop CS3. Translatable, I think; uses Curves and Color Balance. No selective color. Tutorial is image-heavy.)

First, I cropped and resized my base:

Next, I brightened it up with a curves layer.

RGB - Input: 131, Output: 145
Red - Input: 126, Output: 131
Green - Input: 130, Output: 141
Blue - Input: 128, Output: 132

It's not bright enough, so I added another Curve layer.

RGB - Input: 118, Output: 146
Red - Input: 135, Output: 149
Green - Input: 126, Output: 132
Blue - Input: 128, Output: 132

Now it looks a little too washed out, so I added a Levels layer.

To make the colors more vivid, I used a Color Balance layer.

Midtones: +18 +12 +4
Highlights: +20 +18 +12
Shadows: +23 +16 +13
Make sure "Preserve Luminosity" is checked.

I thought it still looked a bit too washed out, so I added another Levels layer.

Next, I merged all the layers (Ctrl+Shift+E) and sharpened.

I wanted it to have a little bit of a yellow light to it, so I created a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N), filled it with #DEBB6F, and set it to Soft Light, 20% opacity:

To add some more warmth, I added the following texture and set it to Soft Light, 70% opacity.

-->

Finally, I added just a little bit more brightness. I created a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N), filled it with #FFC5A9, and set it to Soft Light, 15% opacity:

-->

And that's all!

I hope this was helpful! Please let me know if there are any mistakes or problems, thank you! :D
