Week 54 : Challenge thoughts

Jun 29, 2007 23:04

Ok, I know what you're thinking - "Why is she posting a challenge when we're not even half way through the week with this one yet". I promise, I have an explanation.
So, I know that we all voted a while ago to keep the challenges down to one week, every week... but when I adopted iconbenders, someone suggested that we double up the challenges, and I've been toying around and experimenting with it ever since...
So what if we did this: a two week long challenge, but voting would be posted every week for a challenge... um, let me see if it's easier to explain in periods and symbols. Let's sat that "C" is the challenge is posted, the dashed lines are the two week intervals, and "V" is voting.
This Challenge:
C------------------------------------Week 1 passes------------------------- --------V
A new challenge starts here: C-------------------------------------Week 1 passes------------------------------V
And then another challenge will start up in that mid week interval - the schedule will be the same, and challenge will come up weekly, as will voting. We'll just have more time to work on icons.
Of course, you're always welcome to comment, whether you vehemently oppose this new system, or you're absolutely in love with it... I want to hear what you think, guys!

Ok, now onto the challenges. You'll only have a little over a week to get this one in, just so we can swing back onto schedule (monday voting etc.).

EDIT!!!!:We're going to do the regular thing again. This is the normal week entry!

Challenge One:
The World Around Us. Yes, the Avatarverse is filled with great facial expressions and moments to icon, but sometimes you need to step back and admire the full landscape. For these icons, I want you guys to focus on the environment (the background, if you will) around the person or thing in the foreground. So that means now character closeups, and no cropping and setting to a different BG. You're allowed to have just landscape, but it's preferable that you show a character somewhere in the icon.

Challenge Two:
Base Challenge.
I'm providing you with a few 100x100 base images. You may crop, add textures and text, and colourize to your hearts content.. But I only want to see the base image in the icon, nothing else. (And that means you can't blend the bases either :D)

If this suggestion is met with shining disapproval, this will just become next weeks challenge, and we'll stick with the weekly routine!

PS sorry is this a long ramble that makes no sense... I'm wicked tired and I'll fix it in the morning.
