Mod's Choice...oooh thank you. ^_^

Now how did I know that first place icon was amethyststeam's and was going to win first? I swear that's not hindsight bias at work - that icon is pretty siffy.

xDD

And to your other post; it was an icon I made awhile ago back when my style was the white layer with a part "erased" with a pretty brush (a similar one to the Eastern Air Temple icon I made that won at avatarstillness) and a text brush that has a cool effect. :3 (This is one of the few times I use text brushes now xD)

Or maybe something else? I dunno. xD

But thanks to all who voted for mine and congrats to the other winners! =DD (poipu, I've seen you and a bunch of other people do that effect--tutorial please? xD I <3 that effect.)

And yours was hilarious, icedragoncat. xDD

Looks like it's just a mask brush (ohdiamond made a similar icon as you can see here), but if I had to do it from scratch, I'd use the rounded rectangle vector tool in Photoshop, draw a rectangle, rotate it, duplicate it, select it, invert the selection, then erase the (most likely rotated) base image that's outside the selection (did that make sense?).

If you don't have the rounded rectangle vector tool, you can use belumina's Rounded Edges Tutorial in its place and then follow the same steps.

If you want, I could try it out (I've never used that effect before) and write a tut if poipu's too lazy to XDDD

I figured it out just from what you said in the first paragraph though a bit differently; but it still worked so thanks! =D (I put the two black rounded rectangles on a blank image; flattened the image after I rotated them and dragged that to be the top layer on an icon and changed the blend mode to "screen" to get it to work and work it did ;) "Screen" tends to work much better than "Lighten" in this case as the edges didn't look so pixely, which tends to happen when you rotate shapes and the like. x_x)

So thanks! And I might write a tutorial on it someday maybe. :3

I don't have the rounded rectangle tool, but alpaca4eva made me a couple of brushes ^_^

That tut for the rectangles loks great! Thanks, XD

Oh see, mines not below the text tool (I have Elements 5.0); it's below the "paint bucket" tool which is below the "brush" tool, if that helps. If you hold your cursor over it without clicking it says, "Rounded Rectangle Tool". Maybe that'll help?

Hmmm, then I'll possibly ask her how she made them, cause mine come out a bit pixely. x_x

And you were actually able to comprehend my funky way of going about making the rounded rectangle? xD (Glad it made sense, though. =D)
