Colorization Tutorial
Colorization Tutorial:
I’m working with photoshop elements 4.0. We are going from black and white to color. Once again the icon part of it comes at the end.

-When I say merge I mean merge everything, unless stated otherwise.
-Also don't forget to stay working with the larger image. Its much easier to work with than something 100x100.
-You can also take certain parts of this and add it to other images. Like enhancing the eye (you can use this technique to change eye color).

1- You can start any part. But I like to start with the iris. Take the lasso tool and lasso around both of the irises. Take a blue color (00c6ff), create a new layer and fill it in. Set the blend mode to color. Erase away the part that covers the pupil. Merge. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j195/xiggy89x/Tutorials/Picture3.png
2- Take the lasso tool again. And lasso around the whole face. Create new layer and fill it with a skin color (ce9d7d). Set the blend mode to soft light. Go to filter>blur>smart blur. Erase the part around the eye. Or more specifically the iris. Merge. (I had a screen cap I don't know where it went though. :p)
3- Create a new layer. Take a brown color (6d482b). Now take a soft brush and brush over the hair. Set it to soft light. Merge.

4- Now the lips. Take a red color (fd2328), create new layer and lasso around the lips. Fill it in. Set to soft light 45%. Do a smart blur on it. Merge.

5- Now its time to go back to the eyes. Zoom in. Create new layer. Select a whitish color. Now brush over the white parts of the eye. Set blend mode to color. Merge.

6- Stay zoomed in. Take the dodge tool. And brush over the both of the iris’. You can also highlight the lips with this technique.

7- Duplicate layer and set blend mode to soft light.
8- Create new layer. Take black and with a really small brush put in the eye liner. Set the blend mode to soft light 55%. Merge. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j195/xiggy89x/Tutorials/Picture8.png
9- That’s all I’m going to do with the eye. If you want the tutorial on how to apply makeup//eye shadow and such its on my journal. Create a new layer. Fill it with 180d46. Set the blend mode to exclusion. Duplicate the base layer and drag it to the top set blend mode to soft light. Merge. (You can skip this step if you want. )

10- Set the saturation to +20 and the contrast to +10. Merge.
11- Resize your image. And drag it onto a 100x100 document. You can add brushes and text if you want. But since this was more of a colorization tutorial I'm not gonna go into adding textures. =]
