it's called vignette :D here's how i do it: - make a new layer and select the elliptical marquee tool to select your subject. make sure it's feathered at least to 15px. - select inverse. - fill in the selection with black. - now your corners should be black, but you need to change the blend mode if you don't like the first one because it looks too harsh. use either overlay (opacity needs adjustment) or soft light to make it like the second one :D
I have an easier way make a new layer flood fill it with black then take a large or small soft brush however big you want the circle to be and make a WHITE CIRCLE on the black layer set the layer to multiply 100% and it should work ;)
