Well,Well, I've finally made a full tutorial for Gimp, and beginners might have a bit of trouble with it, but it's pretty easy for someone who's been using Gimp for awhile. Please tell me if you're not understanding parts of the tutorial, I'd like to know what to change! Thanks! -Ruby

What version are you using? 2.0.something? (I have 1.something-else, because my computer can't handle anything higher ^_^ )
How do you add a brush in GIMP? And where would you find a brush to add it?
I've found an easier way to make a border than just drawing it with the pencil tool. Create a new tranparent layer, select all, shrink the selection by one pixel, invert the selection, and then fill with the desired color.

But it seems that my version of GIMP (1.2) can't handle patterns with transparency. Urgh. I'll try to make some brushes to simulate the effects.
(Oh! Do you know how to use those brushes with the little red triangles in the corners, the ones that cycle through a bunch of different images when you click on in for the preview?)

For the brushes with the triangles.. there's a good tutorial here - http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Custom_Brushes/
I used some of their tutorials.. but not many seem to apply to what I do with icons.. It's kinda hard. Hope it helps! If you want you're welcome to add me to ask for help with Gimp at anytime.. there are several others who've done so! Thanks -Ruby

The tutorial was helpful, but I do have one question. Where exactly do I go in order to set the screen/soft light/etc options for the layers? The version I have is GIMP 1.2.3, and I'm not sure if that's even an option for the older release. Any help you could give me would rock.
