Okay so this is my very first tutorial. i will be showing you a mixture of techniques ive learned over the past few weeks. Im using Photoshop CS2 so it should be translatable. we will be going from this:

to this:

first off open up your base image:

now to give the picture more umph duplicate your base and set it to soft light. duplicate that layer and desaturate it still on soft light. next duplicate that layer and set it to colour burn at 30 percent. after that duplicate your base again and drag it up to the top. set that layer to screen at 40 percent. then flatten your image.
i got:

next add an unsharpen mask to your new base. then take your blur tool and set the strength to about 30. blur the skin until it looks pretty much flawless. next take your dodge tool. range: midtones exposure: about 75-80. zoom into your eyes and run the dodge tool over them about twice. as you can tell that really brightened up your eyes. i got:

next create a new layer and zoom into your eyes again. take a semi- hard round brush and completley cover the eyes with a dark blue colour. I used #172a77. when you are done set this layer to overlay at 50 percent opacity. next create another layer. keep zoomed into the eyes.colour in the eyes with a greenish-blue colour. i used #0c7480. set this layer to overlay at 30 percent. next create yet another new layer and colour in the eyes with a purplish-bluish colour. i used # 273158. set this layer to overlay at 20 percent. next create another new layer and colour the eyes with at light blue-purple color. i used #425a93. create one last overlay layer. colour in the eyes with a more green colour. i used #236120.set the layer opacity to about 15 percent. all of these shades gives the eyes a more realistic look. next flatten your image. I got:

now duplicate your new base. put it into quickmask mode and colour in the eyes. once you have the eyes (including the eye lids,lashes,etc..) selected exit quickmask mode. go to Select > Inverse then select feather (by about 2). i got:

next delete the eyes from this layer. (delete button while eyes are selected)you will still see the eyes but what you see are now from the bottom layer. make sure you deselect the eyes now. go to filter>blue>gaussian blur. set the radius to about 1 or lower (depeneding on how sharp your picture is)next go to filter>noise>add noise ammount: 0.58 distribution: uniform monochromatic checked. this will help with the dream-like glow for later. next flatten your image. I got:

now duplicate your new base. select the eyes in quickmask mode again (this time ONLY the eyes not the eyelids etc...)
go to select> inverse select> feather 1. once again delete your eyes by pushing delete. then deselect them.next go to image>adjustments>desaturate next flatten image. i got:

next duplicate your base and set to softlight. use the eraser tool to take it off of the eyes. next flatten image again. select them one last time in a new layer with quickmask mode. select>inverse select>feather 1. next image>adjustments>colour balance. here is where you get to do whatever you want to the eyes. change the colour to whatever you want. or, like me, keep the blue eyes. here are the setting i used:

midtones: 0, -7, 15
shadows: 0, -7, 15
highlights: 0, 0, 5
now take your dodge tool again same settings as last time. and lightly put it over the eyes. now you may have noticed the eyes look pretty fake. so duplicate your base go into quickmask mode and select JUST the pupils (the little black parts) select>inverse select>feather 1 now go to image>adjustments> brightness/contrast turn down the brightness by 30. and contrast by 18. i got:

now this is where the FUN begins!!!

add this texture (im sorry but im not sure who by) http://img146.imageshack.us/my.php?image=023yu0lf8.jpg and resize it to fit your photo. paste it on your photo on screen.

add this texture (once again im sorry but im not sure who by) http://img146.imageshack.us/my.php?image=texture5oj0.jpg and set it to screen at 50 percent.

add this texture (im sorry but im not sure who by) http://img146.imageshack.us/my.php?image=step52zd0.jpg and set it to screen at 25 percent.

take this texture (im not sure who by)http://img146.imageshack.us/my.php?image=contagiouzorgtexture13xj9xw2.jpg and set it to overlay. erase any sparkles that cover the eyes.

i added the quote "Beauty Is In The Eyes Of The Beholder" in Creampuff with a drop shadow and an outerglow. download it here:
