can someone point in the direction of some text only icon tutorials such as

Sorry if this seems like a silly question, but why would you need a tutorial for making a text-only icon? Isn't it just putting text, maybe a brush, on a color background? I guess I don't understand what you're looking for specifically. *shrug*

there was one tutorial for it before and it was just like what colors not to put as a background and stuff. Like the colors that would work best.

Anyways, there are tutorials for it so if you have any, i just wanted to some them.

Although the above conversation sets my mod-sense a tingling, I will say this:

a text-only icon is really the IDEAL time to experiment for yourself, to see what colors, fonts, etc. you may like. It's not even like there's a base that you'll screw up in the editing. It's a time to have fun your own way.
