all right, everyone. we're going from:

1. take the picture of your choice and crop it to 100 x 100 pixels:
2. duplicate the layer and set the blend mode to "screen." the result will look like this:
3. merge the layers.
4. duplicate the layer again.
5. go to the "filter" menu, scroll down to "blur" and choose "gaussian blur." set the radius to 2.0 pixels. kelly will look a little something like this:
6. set the blend mode to "multiply." this softens the image a little, creating this look:
7. merge the layers once again.
8. create a new fill layer using a medium shade of blue, such as this one:
9. set the blend mode to "soft light"
10. create a new fill layer using a medium shade of brown, such as this one:
11. set the blend mode to "soft light" once again.
12. merge the layers.
13. your finished product should look like this:
feel free to mess around with the gaussian blur radius, as well as other variables, to create different shades or looks for your icon!
