I've tried different things but so far the results weren't even close. I know she uses gradients and many color overlays, can somebody give me ideas please? I'll really ( Read more... )

I'm not sure about the first two, but I reckon the third one has a dark blue exclusion layer set over it.

Hi! Yeah, it seems like there might be a blue exclusion layer, but I'm kind of lost with the rest of the coloring. There should be lots of different coloring modes I think :?. Thanks for the reply!

I can see the Aragon base was sharpened and then they used the Soften tool to go over his face. I reckon numerous textures were used...you can see the doodle brush in the 3rd icon...maybe something like this could help? http://byjove.livejournal.com/4999.html
It always obviously depends on the quality of the original cap but you could play around a bit with the opacities or removing a couple of layers. I definately agree with cosmicflare about the dark blue exclusion layer. The 1st icon might have one too though I'm not too sure...

By any chance have you tried asking the maker herself?

Hi, yeah I tried asking eledhwen_girl but since she doesn't take notes on every step of how she makes the icons all she could tell me was she uses many color overlays, gradients, etc. I was hoping somebody maybe has done something similar and could give me a hint. I'll try the link you suggested and smoothening with the dodge tool. Thank you! :D

First two? Looks like a texture was slapped on somewhere along the process, that layers were desaturated, deleted and etc ...

I thought there may be desaturated layers & with 'deleted' you mean selecting part of the characters & deleting those parts? 'Cause that's what I thought might've been done for the different colorings (the face has one coloring, the background has a different coloring, etc). Ok, I'll put in practice all the advice I received here, keep your fingers crossed guys!!
Thanks for the help by the way! ^_^
