After Step Three.

Step Four: Go to Image>Adjustments>Brightness/Contrast
I stuck Brightness at +10 and fiddled with the Contrast till the icon had some decent shadows.

Step Five: Go to Image>Adjustments>Shadow/Highlights
I can't remember all the settings I had it at but make sure you have the "Show More Options" clicked. I played with everything.

This was in Photoshop CS by the way.
