I usually resize them DOWN a bit, but even then, they are still wicked grainy, so I am curious what the answer is as well. I've taken caps with Windows Media Player (though I loathe the program itself) and those come out very nicely...
i use the program VLC media player. It's free and you can play pretty much any media file with it. My screen caps come out nice and need minimal retouching before I make them into icons. I've taken screencaps with both PowerDVD and windows media player, and VLC is by far better than both those programs for screencapping. Hope this helps.
I find that some of it depends on what dvds you're capping. Some, especially older movies and some tv shows haven't been cleaned up and are naturally a bit grainy.
Also, what size are you doing? If you've set it very large it might effect it too.
The Power DVD I have has it's version on the splash page in the viewing area. Also click on the cyberlink logo on the controller part for the specifics.
If you have PSP 9 or higher, you can use the enhance photo> one step noise removal feature, works great on the grainy caps I download.
If you use itunes at all, I just tried this tonight and you can use print screen with the itunes video player and take great quality caps. Though, it's not the best method if you want to take a ton.
Hmmm, I'm currently using my default dvd player, and I have the same problem. Does anyone know if moving to PowerDVD would give me less grainy caps? Because at the moment they're useless :(
